Hermeneutics in Everyday Life

[I wrote this in response to discussion on an email list in 1996 about several topics related to hermeneutics, including postmodernism, creationism, the flood, and whether we have to interpret some passages literally.]

In view of our recent discussions about postmodernism and creationism and the flood, I thought it would be a useful summary to consider how the interpretive methods might apply in everyday life. Suppose you're travelling to work and you see a stop sign. What do you do? That depends on how you exegete the stop sign.

[Disclaimer: Yes, some of these comparisons are a little bit unfair. It is certainly true that Biblical interpretation is more complicated and there are more factors involved.]
